About This Kit

Every reader knows the address. Baker Street is a lamplit London alley in miniature: fog-colored brick, a gas lamp glowing over wet cobblestones, and a detective's study waiting behind the window. It sits between your books like a doorway into a mystery novel, and when the LEDs come on at dusk, it steals the whole shelf.

This one is cut from wood rather than the layered paper most book nooks use, which changes the build in a way we like. The pieces are sturdier, they forgive a clumsy grip, and the finished nook has real heft on the shelf. It still earns its Steady Hands rating, though. The lighting wiring asks for a careful half hour, and the smallest window frames want tweezers. Plan on two or three unhurried evenings, and expect the alley to look like nothing until the walls close in, when it suddenly looks like everything.

The box carries the pre-cut wooden sheets and LED kit listed by the maker, and you'll need your own AA batteries.

If this is a Christmas gift, and this kit is one of our December favorites for exactly that, order with room to spare: it ships directly from the maker's studio and takes 7 to 14 days to arrive. Give it to the Sherlock reader in your life and accept that you will not hear from them for a weekend.
